BOSCH Carbon brush codename?

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Does anyone know how to read the code meaning in BOSCH carbon brushes?

Such as carbon brush part number 1.607.031.223 is used for grinder with part number 1.607.014.145.

But does anyone know how to check if the physical size is as same as the box says?

Things to Get for a Shop?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

We have this Shop, its pretty big, we just got a Car Lift, its real nice, trying to think of other things to get for it, the shop isn’t for business, just fun. We have tools already, and Air compressors, table saw, drill press, grinder, a laser cutter machine, pressure washer, band saw, trying to think of other things we might want or maybe should get? A welder is a definate, and thinking about a tire machine, maybe a parts washer table… a hydraulic lift table… does anyone else have any ideas of what to get? Thanks.

AK-47 Modification project – need gunsmith’s advice.?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Got an idea and need some advice to make sure that I am not missing or forgetting anything.

I recently installed a UTG rail kit on my AK, making the latch that secures the upper front grip obsolete. Now the idea is to remove the front sight and the portion of the front sight block that is elevated above the gas tube. Step two would be to mount a rail extending half-way over the receiver, but that’s beside the point.

From what I can tell, unless too much material is removed, the front sight block should still hold the gas tube just fine. The real question is – what tools would suffice? My budget allows for quite a bit, but I don’t want to spend more than K on this project. I was thinking about a good hand-held grinder for the basic removal and a dremel tool for finishing touches. What worries me is the fact that the metal is tempered, could I ruin the temper with this removal?

There is more to this project than described, but I already have most of the answers for everything except this phase. If you are seriously interested in either helping or participating (Northern VA), e-mail me directly: rmerenov@yahoo.com.

So, any tips, suggestions, warnings, or advice? Thanks everyone.

Here is the Robinson’s version that is similar to what I am trying to do: http://www.robarm.com/vepr_ktr.htm

PS. Leave out the questions "why don’t you just buy the VEPR?" I have my reasons.
1. I do have a flat-top (A3) AR. Plus a another dozen guns – some modded, some left stock. :)
2. I am not doing this because of a cheap rail. I am doing this because it is an AK 47 – as in designed in 1947, as in it’s time for a serious redesign (even AK-102 mod barely changed anything).
3. Again, this is just one of several mods. Eventually I plan to build the entire rifle from scratch. But for the time being I want to see what works, what doesn’t, and what can be improved.
4. Thank you all for your quick responses!
PS. The gas tube latch does become obsolete because the grip uses screws to pull the top and bottom halves together. The gas tube is held securely in place. Plus this is just a temporary solution until I come up with something better for the grip system.
PSS. No airsoft parts on my guns. Funny! I will never pay 0 for something I can buy for 0, but I do not resort to installing airsoft parts on real guns. :)

Dog nail trimming- help!?

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

My boyfriend’s dog badly needs his nails trimmed, but I don’t want to do it. I tried the new PediPaws tool- the one that works more like a gentle grinder- but he hated it. Any suggestions? Should I just bring him to a groomer?

What tools are recomended for a home woodshop?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Hi all I just moved into a new house and for the first time I have enough space to make a home wood shop. I want to mainly make clocks and some furniture. I had a small shop before this but could only do smaller projects the area I have now is a 3 car garage about 30 feet wide by fifteen feet long with 9 foot ceilings. It is heated and air conditioned with a cement floor. As far as tools I have a table saw a potable router table a small drill press and a sanding machine with both a belt and disk sander. I also have a small wheel grinder and a sharpening grinder (the water type) I ordered a Carve wright woodcarving machine that should be here thursday but wondering what other tools i should have? things like lathes, planers etc I have all kinds of hand tools and clamps. Also wondering if I should cover my floor with either a rubberized coating or something to cut down on fatigue? Any thought would be appreciated/ Oh as far as a budget goes I have about 7 thousand in my tool fund but would like to get good equipment I’m thinking either DeWalt or Grizzly I have a Grizzly store not to far from me.

pneumatic or cordless electric tools?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

So I bought myself a 26 gallon air compressor & it came with a free impact wrench & I picked up an air ratchet. So far i like it allot but have not realy used the tools except to test them real quick & hear that cool sound.

I’m going to be working on my motorcycle mostly but I bought a new shed to store it in and I am building up my tool collection from scratch just so i have them.

Anyway my delima now is I have no power tools other than what i already mentioned and am looking to buy some. I am wondering if i should just buy all air tools now since i have the compressor of if I should buy corless 18v power tools. For instance i know I need a drill. maybe a saw, dremel, grinder, sander. The basic stuff.

What do you think i should do?
Is pneumatic better for some tools but cordless better for others?

Would cordeless be more practical & versitale, or should i utilize my compressor since i have it.

I always go over the top & was looking at a nice Dewalt combination cordless 18v combo set. I want good stuff, is 18v from a major brand like Dewalt good enough for weekend warrior? I know the air tools pack a nice punch so thats why I am confused on which direction to go. Do they sell air tools in nice combo sets too that arn’t crap?

Thanks!
